After two years of production, Bimota revised the YB9 SR and upgraded it to the SRI, making it fit for another three years. The „I“ stands for „injezione,“ referring to the electronic fuel injection system. This system improves throttle response and provides a slight performance increase compared to the previously used 26 mm Keihin carburetors, while still utilizing Yamaha’s 600cc FZR engine. With this update, Bimota introduced the first fuel-injected model in the 600cc four-cylinder class.

Additionally, the SRI features a split full fairing, significantly simplifying maintenance, and a new front headlight with an integrated parking light. The yellow and red paint schemes remain unchanged, but new decals give the bike a more modern look, further enhanced by additional carbon covers over the air intake openings in the fairing. New three-double-spoke wheels from Antera, now 5.5 inches wide with 180/55 rear tires, along with an improved shock absorber, complete the model update.
