Honda CBR 600 RR

For the 2010 season, Bimota planned to enter the newly introduced Moto2 World Championship, the second-highest racing class within the FIM Motorcycle World Championship. According to the regulations, the class requires standardized engines. At the start of the series, these were the four-cylinder engines from the Honda CBR 600 RR. The regulations also mandate standardized engine control units and electronic data acquisition.

Technical director Andrea Acquaviva developed a hybrid frame for the Honda power unit. The front section consists of a trellis frame made from high-strength nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel, which is bolted to two aluminum plates that serve as the rear engine mount, swingarm pivot, and shock absorber mount.

The chassis components include:

  • Dual-sided aluminum box-section swingarm
  • Paioli upside-down fork with a 43 mm diameter, adjustable preload, as well as compression and rebound damping
  • Adjustable steering angle via inserts in the triple clamps
  • Öhlins TTX monoshock with a linkage system, adjustable preload, and compression/rebound damping
  • Brembo braking components
dual front disc brakes with a 300 mm diameter and four-piston calipers
rear disc brake with a 220 mm diameter and two-piston caliper
  • Carbon fiber fairing components
  • Carbon fiber monocoque
  • Magnesium wheels
