With the SB7, a 750cc derivative of the SB6, Bimota laid the groundwork in 1993 for a return to the Superbike World Championship. The regulations required 200 homologated motorcycles and a maximum engine displacement of 750cc. However, unlike in 1986, when Bimota last won the championship with the YB4, the competition had made significant advancements.
Facing the major Japanese manufacturers – Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, and Suzuki – as well as the dominant Ducatis, which claimed the championship titles from 1994 to 1996, Bimota stood little chance. In the end, the SB7 became another road-going model rather than a successful return to racing.
Technically, the SB7 differs from the SB6 mainly in its engine. However, unlike Suzuki’s stock GSX-R 750 W engine, Bimota equipped it with electronic fuel injection, boosting its output to 132 hp.
