After Bimota’s bankruptcy in 2000, it took four years for motorcycle production to resume. The first model to be reintroduced was the SB8K, which had achieved Bimota’s last major sporting success in the Superbike World Championship in 2000.

Initially, the special edition Gobert was produced using old stock, named after the rider Anthony Gobert at the time. Later, the Santamonica followed, named after the original name of the Misano racetrack. Both models remained largely unchanged from the 2000 SB8K in terms of technology but featured new paint schemes. The SB8K Gobert’s livery matched Anthony Gobert’s 2000 World Championship bike.

The chassis featured a 46 mm Paioli upside-down fork and an Öhlins rear shock. The black-painted aluminum wheels were supplied by Antera.
