The Furano is a variant of the YB8 but features significant modifications affecting the engine, chassis, attachments, fairing, and monocoque.
The compression ratio of the Exup engine from the FZR 1000 is increased to 12:1, the intake and exhaust systems are optimized, and the carburetors are replaced with fuel injection. The result is a perfectly tuned 164 hp, a fact confirmed by the specialist press. In the motorcycle magazine PS, issue 2/1992, the editor writes:
„Never before has an inline-four engine run smoother than the Yamaha engine in Bimota trim. There is no noticeable power dip in any range. … Above 6,000 rpm, the engine virtually explodes, the front wheel lifts in first gear like on a factory superbike … .“

The aluminum frame corresponds to that of the other YB8 models. The chassis is upgraded with an Öhlins upside-down fork, which alone adds 7,000 DM to the price, and an Öhlins rear shock absorber. Both suspension components are infinitely adjustable in preload, rebound, and compression damping. The wheels are composite rims with high-gloss polished rim rings from Akront. The four-piston Brembo Gold braking system with 320 mm discs at the front meets Bimota’s high standards.
The monocoque and fairing incorporate a visible layer of carbon fiber, giving the motorcycle an elegant look alongside its white and red paintwork. The front and rear fenders, gear linkage, rear brake torque plate, and license plate holder are made entirely of carbon fiber. The exhaust silencer also comes standard with a carbon fiber sleeve.
This extensive effort is reflected not only in the high price but also in widespread praise from the specialist press. The previously quoted article states:
„Fascinating—the performance potential of the Bimota. Reassuring—how the chassis handles the power of the engine with absolute stability. Pleasing—how effortlessly and neutrally the machine handles.“

To put the original price of 55,000 DM into perspective: A Porsche 911 Carrera from the same model year cost roughly twice as much in its base configuration. The Honda CBR 900 RR Fireblade, also introduced in 1992, was listed at 19,575 DM.
