The successes of the YB1 in the 1975 season were the basis for a first, larger customer order from Suzuki Italy, which commissioned Bimota to design and manufacture 50 racing chassis for the water-cooled TR500 two-cylinder two-stroke twin.
For the SB1, Tamburini designed a new, open-bottomed tubular frame with rigid triangular structures and stiffening gusset plates. He adopted other design solutions from the HDB1. The SB1 also features the coaxially arranged box swing arm, the non-parallel arrangement of the steering head and fork, and a rear central spring strut, which here, however, is connected via a cantilever system and is installed much flatter in the chassis.
The front engine mount is made using two aluminum plates screwed to the side of the engine, which in turn are screwed to the frame. This enables the engine to be installed and removed. The frame weighs 8.3 kilograms.

The chassis is completed by a 35 mm Ceriani telehydraulic fork at the front and an adjustable Koni monoshock with cantilever system at the rear. The braking system consists of Brembo brake discs, all equipped with double-piston calipers (280 mm double disc at the front and 230 mm disc at the rear). The 18-inch spoked rims are made of magnesium alloy and are supplied by the Speedline company.
The new model is presented by Suzuki Italy at the 1975 Milan Motorcycle Fair.
